Through Testbed Vestre Viken, Vestre Viken Hospital Trust collaborated with Human Bytes to explore whether wireless sensor technology could support patient monitoring and contribute to a more efficient way of working for healthcare professionals.
Ward 24/7 has developed a wireless monitoring solution consisting of a web-based platform and mobile application, distributed in the Nordics by Human Bytes. The solution uses sensors to continuously monitor vital parameters such as temperature, oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, providing healthcare professionals with updated information about the patient’s condition.

Testing wireless patient monitoring in clinical practice
The solution was tested over a four-month period during autumn 2024 in the medical wards at Ringerike Hospital, Vestre Viken. The evaluation took place in a real clinical setting with admitted patients. Healthcare professionals were actively involved throughout the project to assess how the technology could be integrated into routine care and support existing workflows.
Building knowledge through real-world testing
The testing provided valuable insights into both opportunities and practical considerations associated with implementing wireless patient monitoring in healthcare settings. The experience contributed to a better understanding of how technology can support healthcare professionals, which patients may benefit from this type of monitoring, and how new digital tools can be adapted to clinical needs.
The project also highlighted the importance of usability, workflow integration, and compatibility with existing healthcare systems when introducing new technology into clinical practice.

Supporting future healthcare innovation
The project has generated practical knowledge about the use of wireless sensor technology in patient monitoring and contributed to a stronger foundation for future development and potential implementation of digital healthcare solutions.
The collaboration between Human Bytes and Vestre Viken illustrates the value of a testbed approach, where healthcare professionals and technology providers work together to explore, test, and refine new solutions in real-world settings.
